What happens next

Your child has been referred to Physiotherapy. What happens next?

Referrals are clinically screened by a relevant professional within the team. Referrals not meeting the criteria for this service will be re-directed by the Referral Management Centre under the direction of the screening clinician.

Please click here to see acceptance criteria for Children's Physiotherapy referrals.

Once a referral is accepted and triaged, an appointment letter will be sent by post, along with an information leaflet. If your child is unable to attend this appointment, please contact us as soon as possible.

Initial appointments will be based at a suitable setting, which could be at hospital, an educational setting or a children’s centre. It is essential that a parent or carer attends the initial appointment, or we will be unable to see the child.

(If your child’s appointment is at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust, please allow plenty of time to park.  Parking is by pay & display. Parking spaces are limited).

The physiotherapist will carry out an assessment and identify areas of concern, taking into consideration the thoughts and wishes of the child and their carers.  The physiotherapist will then provide suitable advice, based on the assessment, and arrange any follow up care if required.
