UHN’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant for prospective employees
UHN is proud to support veterans, and their families, reservists and Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers in Northamptonshire. As the largest employer in this county, we have reviewed our policies and practices to position UHN as the employer of choice for those with an association with HM Armed Forces. We recognise the transferable skills that veterans possess and wish to welcome and support those who share our values.
When applying for a role, there is an option to identify yourself as a member of the Armed Forces Community and this includes all groups covered by the Armed Forces Covenant, who are:
- A veteran, of the UK Armed Forces.
- A Cadet Force Instructor/Volunteer
- A member of the reserve forces (regular or voluntary).
- A spouse or civil partner of current service personnel within the armed forces.
Subject to meeting the essential criteria for the role you have applied for, if you have declared an armed forces connection, you will be invited to interview.
We offer Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers and Reservists an additional 10 days paid days leave for training to support their military commitments. We will also support Reservists if deployed.
Our annual leave policy allows us to consider periods of employment in HM Armed Forces, which can be counted towards your aggregated service where these are judged to be relevant to the NHS.
UHN is dedicated to ensuring that we are both an excellent and welcoming employer. All our policies are written and reviewed with consideration of our responsibilities under the Armed Forces Covenant and as an additional safeguard our Armed Forces Network is invited to the Policy Board.
UHN has a thriving armed forces network, and many Armed Forces Champions within our organisation. We encourage colleagues to complete our armed forces covenant training so they can give advice and support to either colleagues or patients and assist our Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) Welfare Officer.
If you have any questions please direct them our UHN Veterans Network via email: Kgh-tr.veterans@nhs.net
