Prevent the spread of germs with good hand hygiene
Description
Northampton General Hospital is encouraging everyone, particularly visitors to hospitals and care homes, to adopt good hand hygiene this winter. Winter months see the spread of colds, flu and norovirus (sickness and diarrhoea) through touching surfaces as we go about our daily business, and then touching our mouths or food that we eat.

Nominations are now open for a range of awards celebrating the outstanding achievements of employees and volunteers of Northampton General Hospital. Members of the public can vote in any of the nine categories in the NGH Best Possible Care Awards. The awards recognise individuals or teams that make a real difference, go the extra mile to improve patients' experience or contribute to improvements in the care and safety of patients.

A nurse specialist at Northampton General Hospital has been shortlisted for a national award because of her work supporting patients with brain tumours. Sheralyn "Shez" Holmes, Macmillan neuro-oncology clinical nurse specialist, has been shortlisted for a Macmillan Professionals Excellence Award.

In a ballot of more than 37,000 junior doctors in England, organised by the British Medical Association, 98% have voted in favour of full strike action. Ninety-nine per cent voted for action short of a strike.

A new team has been introduced to Northampton General Hospital's emergency department to improve care for seriously ill or injured patients. The A&E department has been bolstered by the appointment of three members of staff in the newly-created roles of advanced associate practitioner (AAP).
