Covid Day of Reflection 2025

NGH Covid Day of Reflection1

The reflection service at Northampton General Hospital

This year marks five years since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and this Sunday, 9 March, people will gather to mark this occasion with a day of reflection.

Across University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) today, Friday 7 March, we came together to remember those who have lost their lives since the pandemic began and also to honour the work and acts of kindness shown during this time.

At Kettering and Northampton General Hospitals, our Spiritual and Pastoral Care Service held a special service to mark this occasion.

Leading the service at KGH was Mike Corcoran, Lead Chaplin (KGH). He said: “We know that the pandemic had a huge impact – both physically and mentally – on our colleagues. On this poignant day the service being held across UHN will let us remember and appreciate the hard work and dedication that our colleagues and volunteers gave during this time”

The events at both hospitals were well attended by colleagues and visitors taking time out to honour those we lost through the pandemic, as well as the remember the tireless work undertaken through this time. Those attending across both sites were able to lay a daffodil in honour of the annual Marie Curie Day of Reflection.

George Sarmezey, Chaplain (NGH) led the service at Northampton General Hospital. He said: “This was an incredibly sad time for the whole nation. With such uncertainty around how the virus would develop, this period was incredibly difficult for our patients and their families. For those who lost loved ones through this time or still live with the legacy of Covid – this is a real opportunity for reflection”.

We will forever remember those who are no longer with us; we would like to offer our thanks to the key workers who supported our local community during this difficult time.
