NGH finance team are future focussed!

Congratulations to the NGH finance team who have been awarded with the Future Focused Finance Towards Excellence Accreditation at level one.

The award, which lasts for three years, recognises the hospitals continuous development of the finance department and the work they do for our patients. The team conducted a self-assessment of their practices which included six key topic areas which were verified by Finance Director Phil Bradley. The accreditation, awarded by Future Focused Finance, allows the NHS Finance Leadership Council to give recognition to NHS organisations who have the best finance skills, development, culture and practices.

For their self-assessment the team looked at their:

• Department infrastructure
• Personal development
• Professional development
• Finance workforce & career planning
• Corporate financial competence
• Business controls and policy

The Future-Focused Finance initiative aims to develop a diverse, skilled, adaptable and resilient finance function, who ensure that patients receive the highest quality services. There are three levels of accreditation scheme which involve self and peer assessment from other NHS organisations. These three levels reflect the continuous development of a hospitals finance function with the highest level recognising the highest standards of financial competence and commitment to the skills development of the finance team.

Following their successes the finance team have now started to develop their application for level 2 which will involve a peer-assessment undertaken by another NHS accredited organisation.
