Group management model announcement

A chief executive has been appointed for the Group Management Model for Kettering and Northampton general hospitals.

Simon Weldon, the current Chief Executive of Kettering General Hospital, will become the Group Chief Executive across both Trusts later this year.

His appointment was announced today (Thursday, April 16) following a recruitment process which began prior to the current coronavirus emergency.

It is important that we maintain stability of leadership during this time so there are no plans for changes to Trust leadership or management until after the coronavirus emergency is over.

As previously announced at the start of the year both hospital Trust Boards agreed that a Group Management Model will support and lead strengthened collaboration between the two hospitals for the benefit of the communities they serve.

The formation of the group is not a merger and both Trusts will continue to provide core services such as A&E and maternity services but will collaborate more closely on other clinical and support services with the aim of providing the best care possible for patients.

Group Chairman Alan Burns said: “Working together has never been more important and that has been highlighted to us all by the current coronavirus crisis.

“It is also the thinking behind the Group Management Model which will develop arrangements for equitable and comprehensive care for the people we serve – making the best use of the talents of our fantastic teams at both hospital sites.”
