ROSE Awards for colleagues who are kind and compassionate

Rose awards March 25 NEW

Hard-working, kind, compassionate, and dedicated staff who support their patients, and their colleagues, in outstanding ways have received ROSE Awards from Northampton General Hospital.

Senior Therapy Technical Instructor, Angie Taylor was nominated by a patient for the way she looked after them after they had a heart attack.

Part of the nomination reads: “I was taken to Dryden ward following an angioplasty where I suffered a heart arrest and four stents were inserted. It was here I met Angie, who came to me following a request for a comfortable chair. I needed help but most particularly a caring helper who would listen. Angie was an angel. She encouraged me to walk from the ward, gave me courage to climb the stairs, encouraged me to dress and go forth. Without her my trauma would have been worse. She was my true angel and that’s why I wish to nominate her for a ROSE award.“

Healthcare Assistant, Janet Bradshaw from Ophthalmology outpatients was nominated by Eye Casualty Ward Manager, Atanaska (Nassie) Marlow, for the award to celebrate her incredible contribution to patient care.

She said: “I am honoured to nominate Janet Bradshaw for recognition of their empathy, caring attitude, and unwavering dedication during her remarkable 37 years of service in our hospital and Ophthalmology Department. She has consistently demonstrated an ability to connect with others on a personal level. Her genuine care for colleagues and patients creates an atmosphere of trust and compassion. Whether offering a listening ear, providing thoughtful advice, or going above and beyond to support others in times of need, they embody the true spirit of empathy in every interaction. For her empathy, dedication, and lasting impact on our department.”

Emmanual Etuh, a Healthcare Assistant in the Head and Neck ward, was nominated by a family member for the care of a patient. They said:

“From the moment that we met Emmanual, he was the most friendly, kind and caring young man. Nothing seemed too much trouble for him. He really has been charming and welcoming to us as visitors and it’s apparent to see that he does go above and beyond on a daily basis to do his job. It’s people like Emmanual that make the hospital what it is and put those who are feeling uneasy about their stay at ease. From all of the family we would like to send our heartfelt thanks to him!”

Laura Mace, a Midwifery Support Worker from Gosset Ward neonatal unit was nominated for the way she supported a family. They wrote:

“I don’t know where to start with Laura. She was amazing from the first day I met her and when she was looking after my twins. She was so caring with my boys and genuinely took care of them like her own, ensuring they were burped properly because they were always difficult to burp, making sure they are well taken care of, fed right on time, given cuddles when they weren’t settling, the list goes on and on for all that Laura did. I genuinely can’t thank her enough. She deserves so much recognition for the work she puts in, she always went above and beyond and stood out so much compared to others who took care of my boys. I felt like she genuinely cared about me and them.”

Director of Nursing, Jo Smith said: “It is always very heart-warming to see our amazing ROSE award nominations as they give an insight into the working lives of a variety of our colleagues.

“It is very clear from the nominations that Angie, Janet, Emmanuel and Laura, have all shown so much compassion and reassurance to support patients and their families during their hospital journeys.

“The care they have demonstrated is what we enjoy celebrating through our ROSE award scheme and I congratulate them all on their achievement.”

ROSE stands for Recognising Our Staff Excellence (ROSE) and celebrates care delivered by staff where they show empathy, compassion, and dedication, that goes beyond the normal call of duty.

Staff who can be nominated include clinical healthcare support workers, allied health professions (AHPs), such as therapists, operating department practitioners, and radiographers. The awards also include pharmacists, scientists, and other non-nursing or non-medical clinical registrants.
